Virtual Food Drive
The easiest way to track financial donations and see instant progress is to donate online through our Virtual Food Drive. Your group must be enrolled for your organization's name to appear.
Offline Donations
Use our Donation Tracking Form to make sure your group receives proper credit for offline donations. The following information must be on each check:
- Name of your organization or group
- Identification number (provided by the Food Bank after enrollment)
- Team Name (where applicable)
1. Cash donations must be dropped off directly to a Food Bank Distribution Site (San Jose or San Carlos) however, Second Harvest staff members are happy to pick up donations of $1,000 or more. DRIVERS DELIVERING OR PICKING UP SUPPLIES CANNOT ACCEPT MONETARY DONATIONS for their own safety.
2. Mail checks directly to Second Harvest at 750 Curtner Avenue, San Jose, CA 95125. Please indicate the name of your organization, your identification number, and team name with the donations. Please do not mail cash.
3. Credit Card donations can be made via the phone at 866-234-3663, online through our virtual food drive, or you can download a credit card donation form and mail it to the above address or fax it to 408-266-9042.
Tax Receipts
Every donor giving online will receive an automated email receipt. Offline donations of $5 or more will receive a receipt by mail, provided that we receive the following at the time the donation is turned in:
- Donor Name
- Complete Address
- Donation Amount
- Gift Date
Tax Receipts are only provided for financial donations. No tax receipt will be provided for donated food. This is because your tax preparer can make the most accurate tax decisions by using your poundage contribution statement in concert with the original purchase receipt of the donated items.
Matching Gift Program
Please consult your Human Resources department to see if your company matches charitable contributions. If they do, be sure to enclose the paperwork required by your company with your gift.
