Maya Murthy

After four years as director of community nutrition at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, Maya Murthy stepped into her role as Vice President of Programs and Services in 2022. Maya brings her many years of experience in healthcare, the private food sector and community food program development to this role, where she oversees the programs and services that ensure everyone in our community has access to the nutritious food they need to thrive.

Maya has an extensive background in public health and started her early career as a clinical dietitian, working at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She later moved to the Bay Area to help develop health and nutrition programs for nonprofits like FIRST 5 Santa Clara County.

While at Second Harvest, she has been dedicated to developing delicious, culturally relevant, simple recipes for clients and sharing love for nourishment and culture. She is passionate about promoting food equity in our neighborhoods and ensuring equal access to healthy and affordable foods.

Maya has a B.S. from Michigan State University and a Master’s degree in Public Health from Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health.
